MLB Thursday Weather: Be careful at Angelic Breezes in Anaheim

It’s not often that a baseball game is postponed the day before the game. This happens even more rarely two Baseball games are postponed the day before the game, but that’s what happened yesterday when today’s Mariners-White Sox and Padres-Cardinals games were rescheduled early.

This saves me some work and saves everyone the trouble of debating whether or not to use these players in their fantasy lineups. I like this.

That being said, a 10-game slate is now a paltry eight-man roster. Tomorrow there will be another little surprise. Somehow we got by all week without a full 15-game megillah. At least there was plenty of baseball during the day…

A trip to the laboratory

You might notice the wind blowing in Anaheim…or Los Angeles…or wherever the hell the Angels are playing. This is true. However, this is often the case. Unfortunately, that doesn’t give us a head start.

In fact, it was quite unprofitable to take over Angel Stadium when the wind died down. The over/under has increased from 8 to 8.5 since the Rangers-Angels game opened tonight, but if you take the over, I’m hoping it’s for a reason other than the wind.

Highest weather ratings

  • Boys at Braves: 35
  • Red Sox at Athletics: 29th

Weather ratings are a proprietary number created by FantasyLabs These are on a scale of 0 to 100, with 100 being the best batting atmosphere and 0 being the best pitching atmosphere. Temperature, wind speed, wind direction, stadium height, humidity and air pressure are taken into account.

Ooohhh 35, I’m really scared. The best baseball weather is still not good today. We’ve still only had a few games with above average batting conditions all season (i.e. last week).

Both over/under numbers are actually down half a run since the open, with Cubs-Braves down to 8.5 and Sox-A down to 8. It may be the “best” weather of the day, but it’s still not good.

Lowest Weather Ratings

  • Blue Jays at Indians: 7
  • Reds at Pirates: 13
  • Royals at Tigers: 13

We don’t have temperatures above 30 degrees today, but the weather is still mostly bad across the country, especially in the Ohio Valley.

Cleveland, which recently posted a weather rating of 2, is back today with a weather rating of 7 against Toronto. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 40s and a stiff 10 mph breeze will be blowing from the right field foul pole toward third base.

With this prediction and Trevor Bauer’s decision for the Indians, the over/under has dropped from 7 to 6.5 since the opener.

There will also be dismal conditions in Detroit, where the over/under has also dropped by half a run since the opener (from 8 to 7.5). In Comerica, winds will shift slightly and blow from left field, but cloudy conditions will prevail with temperatures in the low to mid 40s.

It’s getting almost 10 degrees warmer in Pittsburgh, but the wind is blowing from the left again and the sky is cloudy. After an initial increase from 7.5 to 8, this over/under value has fallen back to the initial value of 7.5. More than 70% of bets are on the over, but the money is split.
